Safety Net Roll

Secondary retention nets preventing dropped object accidents. The Stainless Steel Safety Net Roll is an Anti-Drop Safety Netting solution that enables the creation of custom safety nets on-site. Using basic hand tools, the Safety Net Roll can be cut into smaller sections and wrapped around equipment at heights. Additionally, a steel lanyard is utilized to attach the net to a structure, providing a secondary retention method to prevent objects from falling. These Safety Net Rolls are adaptable to both onshore and offshore environments and are treated with chemicals for added durability.

In heavy industries, dropped objects pose a significant risk and are one of the most frequent incidents in the offshore drilling industry. However, incidents and the risk of falling or dropping objects can be significantly reduced by securing overhead fixtures and items at height, such as speakers, CCTV cameras, navigation lights, and floodlights, using secondary locking devices and additional securing techniques.

One effective way of preventing dropped objects is through the use of specifically designed secondary retention nets. These safety nets are designed to secure, enclose and tether overhead fixtures and items to prevent them from falling when their primary attachment fails. This dropped object prevention safety net will catch equipment at height when brackets corrode or connections to the structure fail due to impacts, fatigue, or other factors. The nets are suitable for onshore and offshore installations.

To prevent objects from falling from height, the safety nets are wrapped around the objects, and the size of the Safety Net Roll required is determined by the size of the object. A strong lanyard is supplied to weave through the netting and wrap and lock the ends of the safety net to the solid structure. This secondary retention method is commonly applied to protect the lives of workers and pedestrians. By implementing secondary retention nets, the risk of incidents caused by dropped objects can be significantly reduced.

Langman Ropes, a family-owned company since 1638, values true craftsmanship and performs several load tests at their factory. The crimping of safety netting is the weakest link, and testing these crimpings provides the exact Safe Work Load (SWL) of the safety net. Actual load testing of crimping is witnessed by classification companies such as DNVGL (Det Norske Veritas Germanischer Lloyds) and ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), verifying the actual break load of crimping.

The Safety Nets (ø 2.0 mm – AISI316) and (ø 2.5 mm – AISI316) have verified actual break loads of 187 kg (414 lbs) and 273 kg (602 lbs), respectively. The Safe Work Loads (SWL) for the Safety Nets (2.0 mm – AISI316) and (2.5 mm – AISI316) are 37.5 kg (82 lbs) and 54.6 kg (120 lbs), respectively, and have been tested and verified.

Actual load testing certificates from DNVGL & ABS for the safety nets (verification of Safe Work Load [SWL] by load testing) are available and can be submitted upon request.

Our Safety Net Rolls for Dropped Objects Prevention are essential in the following situations:

  • Maintenance or inspection of fixtures /objects located in difficult-to-reach areas.
  • Fixtures /objects installed at heights with a potential risk of falling.
  • Objects / fixtures situated in the impact zones of mobile equipment such as crane booms, derricks, drill rigs, draglines, and shovels.
  • Fixtures /objects and their mountings exposed to wear and fatigue caused by vibration.
  • Fixtures /objects subject to corrosion.

These Safety Net Rolls serve as secondary retention measures for various types of fixtures/objects, including floodlights, speakers, horns, self-retracting lifelines, visual sign lighting, portable lighting, fixture pole lighting, hangers, and photocontrol lighting.

Anti-Drop Safety Netting

We get a lot of questions about our safety netting fall protection. Below you can read more about from our answers.

What are safety nets?
Safety nets for fall protection are generally used at high-rise building construction sites in order to prevent objects from falling on the worksite. These nets are different from oil nets or other safety net systems in that they are a form of secondary protection in case the primary safety fails. We have two options available. One option is a safety net roll, which can be cut and used according to what size is needed. Another option we offer is custom sized nets, which is implemented fast as it requires no modification and is made for the object itself.

What is secondary retention?
Safety Nets Fit-to-size are used for secondary retention. It secures, encloses and tethers overhead fixtures to prevent dropped objects to the work floor when its primary attachment (or installation bracket) fails.

Why dropped objects prevention?
The accidental dropping of tools and equipment poses a safety threat to workers operating at elevated heights. It is therefore important to take precautionary measures to reduce the frequency of such accidents. Tools, equipment and mounted objects in an elevated location have the potential to fall due to movement. These nets are designed to protect employees from severe injuries in a wide range of working environments. The dropped object prevention safety net will catch the equipment at height when brackets corrode or connections to structure fails (e.g. impact by crane, fatigue, etc). The nets are designed for onshore and offshore installations.

Here are some benefits of using a safety net roll:

  • Enhanced safety: Safety net rolls provide an effective secondary retention method to prevent dropped objects, ensuring the safety of workers and pedestrians.
  • Versatility: Safety net rolls are suitable for a wide range of onshore and offshore applications, making them a versatile solution for different industries and environments.
  • Durability: Made from stainless steel, safety net rolls are highly durable and resistant to corrosion, ensuring they can withstand harsh conditions and provide long-term protection.
  • Easy to install: Safety net rolls can be cut into smaller sections with simple hand tools and wrapped around equipment at height, making them easy to install and configure on-site.
  • Cost-effective: By creating your own safety nets on-site using a safety net roll, you can save on costs associated with pre-made safety nets or other safety equipment.
  • Compliance: Safety net rolls are verified through load testing and certification by classification companies, ensuring they comply with industry safety standards and regulations.
  • Customizable: Safety net rolls can be tailored to specific requirements, allowing for customization to suit the needs of different industries and applications.
